Abstract

A solid shaped exothermic composition comprises a readily-oxidizable material and an oxidizing agent therefor, bonded by means of an inorganic cement, e.g Portland, alumina or magnesia-based cement. The readily oxidizable material, e.g. finely-divided aluminium, and oxidizing agent may be granulated and mixed in the cement. The cement is preferably 2 to 5% of the composition which may also contain a heat insulating refractory filler, which may be used in layer form as facing or backing for a layer of the composition or a more strongly exothermic material may be used.
