Abstract
A building material composition comprises 0,1 to 5% of an alkyl polysiloxane powder of a grain size below 1 micron. The polysiloxane may be mixed with an inert powder e.g. cement, lime, sand, a pigment, chalk, talcum, kieselguhr, silica or a salt of a higher fatty acid, (e.g. one of the components of the building composition) before admixture with the remainder of the composition. The alkylpolysiloxanes are products of hydrolysis and condensation of liquid alkylhalosilanes and mixtures containing them which are known to give solid siloxane products by rapid hydrolysis and spontaneous condensation. The polysiloxanes are added to mortars, concretes, asbestos cement, magnesia cement, gypsum, anhydrite or artificial stone compositions, and render them water repellant.
