Abstract

Concrete is made impermeable to water by the addition of an organo-silicon compound defined as being of the polysiloxane class where silicon and oxygen atoms are linked to each other alternately and carbon atoms are directly attached to these silicon atoms, both linkages being contained in the same molecule but not having two or more silicon atoms directly linked. Specified are (1) and alkyl siloxane of the formula: <FORM:0782111/V/1> n being an integer and R alkyl or phenyl, or (2) a condensed polysiloxane of the formula: <FORM:0782111/V/2> where R is alkyl, and the compound has an acid number less than 0,04. The compounds are mixed with a powdered mineral e.g. kieselguhr, talcum, limestone or chalk, and added to cement and sand. In addition, a soap e.g. potassium or calcium oleate, calcium stearate, or a naphthenic soap, a precipitated fatty acid e.g. stearic, or a protein decomposition product, singly or in combination, may be added.
