Abstract
A metal-ceramic composition to be fired in an inert atmosphere, e.g., argon, to between 1250 DEG C. and 1600 DEG C. consists essentially of chromium 60-90 per cent, alumina 30-5 per cent, silica 1-10 per cent, the silica being present as such and/or combined as an alumino-silicate and/or as a compound yielding silica during the firing, e.g., ethyl silicate. When ethyl silicate is used it may be mixed with a gelling agent, e.g., water, and a gelling accelerator such as a mixture of piperidine and dicyclohexylamine, and with alcohol and then incorporated into admixed chromium and alumina powder before firing to preferably about 1450 DEG C. When silica is used as such or as an alumino-silicate it is mixed with the powdered chromium and alumina, a temporary binder, e.g., wax, is incorporated and the mass is fired to preferably about 1550 DEG C.
