Abstract

A waterproof cement composition which sets at room temperature comprises liquid methyl polysiloxanes made according to Specification 661,737, a filler in proportion sufficient to make the composition a thick paste and lead or lithium acetate, stearate or phenate, in amount e.g. of 0.1 to 5.0 per cent by weight of the polysiloxanes. Fillers specified are lead monoxide, barium sulphate, calcium carbonate, silica and asbestos powder, separately or in admixture. The polysiloxanes may be mixed with the filler to form a thick paste and the organic metal derivative may then be added, or a mixture of the filler and the organic metal derivative may be incorporated in the polysiloxanes. In the example, a benzene solution of a mixture of lead phenate and stearate is added to a mixture of barium sulphate and the polysiloxanes. The compositions may be used as insulating cements for sealing, coating electrical parts, covering existing cements and for application to paper, cardboard and woven fabrics.
