Abstract

Rubber latex, stabilized with sodium or potassium silicate and potassium carbonate, as described in Specification 433,116, [Group V], is mixed with molten tarry or bituminous material at temperatures up to 350 DEG F. Concentrated latex is generally employed, and in proportions between 5 per cent and 20 per cent of the tarry or bituminous material. The latex may be vulcanized or have vulcanizing ingredients added thereto. Mineral or vegetable oils may be added to the compositions, which may be used for coating metals, spraying, &c.ALSO:Rubber latex, stabilized with sodium or potassium silicate and potassium carbonate, as described in Specification 433,116, is mixed with molten tarry or bituminous material at temperatures up to 350 DEG F. Concentrated latex is generally employed, and in a proportion between 5 per cent and 20 per cent on the weight of tarry or bituminous material. The latex may be vulcanized or have vulcanizing ingredients added, and fillers, e.g. granite, limestone, ragstone, clinker and Portland cement, may be incorporated in the mix, also vegetable or mineral oils. The compositions may be used for road surfacing, cable sheathing, coating metal and fabric, moulding, extrusion, spraying, &c.
