Abstract
A dry plaster mixture comprises dry hydrated lime, retarded calcium sulphate hemihydrate in a weight ratio between 1 to 4-4 to 1 and a small percentage of a finely divided cellulose alkyl, hydroxy alkyl or alkyl hydroxy alkyl ether which has a viscosity not less than 500 centipoises in a 2% aqueous solution at 15 DEG C. Conventional protein retarders are used and the ether may be methyl cellulose, hydroxy ethyl cellulose or methyl hydroxy ethyl cellulose finer than 100 mesh B.S. in a proportion of 0,2% to 1% based on the weight of the solids. Mineral or vegetable fillers and colouring material such as sand, asbestos or perlite may be added to the dry mixture which is finally mixed with water.
