Abstract

A dry compound plaster mixture comprises by weight 30% to 60% calcium carbonate or calcium magnesium carbonate, 0,1% to 0,5% of a water soluble cellulose alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or alkyl hydroxyalkyl ether, up to 20% aggregate if required, and the remainder consisting of finely divided retarded calcium sulphate hemihydrate and calcium hydroxide in a granimetric ratio from 3:1 to 1:2. The calcium carbonate or calcium magnesium carbonate, are present as natural minerals such as chalk, limestone or dolomite of minus 100 mesh or as the chemically produced carbonates and the calcium sulphate and hydroxide are of minus 150 mesh size. The calcium sulphate is either added in the retarded form or a retarder such as animal glue, hoof and horn products, sodium and ammonium salts of citric, gluconic or aconitic acid are added to the mixture. The aggregates specified are sand, perlite, vermiculite and kieselguhr either as coarse grist or fibres or the cellulose ethers exemplified are methyl cellulose, methyl hydroxy ethyl cellulose or ethyl hydroxy ethyl cellulose. Gauging water is added to the dry mixture so that the cellulose ether concentration in the aqueous phase of the plaster is at least 1/2 %.
