Abstract
612,270. Luminescent materials. DERBY & CO., Ltd., and MEYER, H. May 22, 1946, No. 15523. [Class 39 (i)] A white-fluorescing material comprises an admixture of blue-fluorescing zinc sulphide actuated by silver, yellow - fluorescing zinc beryllium silicate activated by manganese, and yellow-fluorescing zinc sulpho-selenide (or zinc cadmium sulpho-selenide) actuated by copper or silver, or both. The zinc sulphide contains .005 per cent of silver and 2 per cent beryllium oxide to improve stability. The silicate may contain cadmium oxide and/or aluminium oxide. The sulpho-selenide component is prepared by mixing the sulphide and the selenide, both prepared by precipitation from a purified ammoniacal zinc or zinc-cadmium salt solution, adding .002 per cent of silver as soluble salt in solution and a flux, e.g. a halide or a borate with or without beryllium oxide, and firing at 700-900‹ C.
