Abstract
457,126. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and RANDALL, J. T., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Wembley, Middlesex. May 22, 1935, No. 14940. [Class 39 (i)] [See also Group XX] Means for illumination comprises a material whose main component contains zinc, oxygen, and silicon arranged in a crystal structure characterized by R÷ntgen-ray spacings substantially as shown in a table set out in the Specification, and an electric discharge device relative to which the material is located so that it is adapted to be excited to luminescence by the ultra-violet radiation and/or slow electrons from a discharge in the device. The fluorescence is yellowish-white. The material may be mixed with other luminescent materials, and it may be coated on the interior surface of the envelope of the discharge device, which may emit the low-pressure mercury spectrum. Specification 438,910 is referred to.
