Abstract

493,449. Luminescent materials for discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RANDALL, J. T. April 7, 1937, No. 9889. Drawings to Specification. [Class 98 (i)] The luminescent material for a high-pressure metal-vapour electric discharge lamp having a quartz or like envelope, comprises zinc cadmium sulphide containing 20-40 per cent cadmium sulphide and activated, for example, by copper to emit orange red light, and calcium tungstate emitting blue light. The lamp is of the kind in which the emitted spectrum has a red ratio of ¢ to 4. The envelope has a transmission for the lines of the spectrum between 7000 and 2200 A.U. The calcium tungstate is excited mainly by radiation not longer than 3100 A.U. The mixture of equal parts of zinc-cadmium sulphide and calcium tungstate are coated at a density of À01 grm./sq. cm. Specifications 407,318, 410,114 ; 431,409, [Group XL], 457,126, and 474,907 are referred to.
