Abstract
602,435. Thermionic valves. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Dec. 20, 1945, No. 34496. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1940. [Class 39 (i)] In an incandescent cathode rectifier with a shield 16 between the cathode 2 and anode or anodes 3, small holes 18 are made in the shield which either are out of any direct line between the cathode and anode or are so small that the chance of a sputtered particle from the cathode reaching the anode is negligible. The anodes shown are surrounded at their sides by gauze 12 ; the cathode is supported by stems 4 encased in porcelain ; the shield is supported by a cylinder 14 leaving between these parts the main discharge gap 17. A screen 13 separates the anodes. Potentials may be applied to the shield through a terminal 19. Mercury vaporizes from the container 23 cooled by fins 23, and argon at less than 1 mm. is used. In another form, the shield is an open-ended cylinder. The subjectmatter is identical with that of Specification 553,012.
