Abstract
500,530. Metal - vapour apparatus. PATENTVERWERTUNGS - GES. HERMES. Aug. 8, 1938, No. 23406. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] A single-anode metal-vapour device has the anode tube 4 and the cathode 2, arranged eccentrically and the tube 4 is screened from the cooled space above the cathode. The anode arm 3 may consist of ceramic tubes soldered together and the tube 4 is provided with a grid 5 which may be used for control purposes or for retarding negative ions, and with a grid 6 which may be maintained negative during the blocking phase tc prevent positive ions entering the tube. A U-shaped metal mem. ber 7 screens the tube 4 from the cathode space, which is cooled by cooling pockets or cooling coils 10 arranged on each side of an exciting anode 9. A highresistance ignition electrode may replace the exciting anode. A cooling jacket 8 and an exciting anode 11 may be provided. The cathode may consist of mercury, alkali metal or mixtures thereof.
