698,840. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 30, 1951 [Sept. 9, 1950], No. 20506/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(i) [Also in Group XI] The leading-in or support wires for the filament of an evacuated device such as a thermionic valve, or a discharge or incandescent lamp, are formed, at least in part, of a composition of nickel and barium, the latter providing a continuous gettering action throughout the life of the device. Practical considerations set an upper limit of 0.05 per cent as the amount of barium in a barium-nickel alloy, but this proportion may be increased to 1 per cent by the additional presence of copper or chromium.
