Abstract

717,630. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 21, 1952 [July 20, 1951], No. 18373/52. Class 39(1) [Also in Group XI] In making electrical devices having an exhausting-tube and leading-in wires sealed into the neck of a glass envelope by the application of heat and pressure to form a pinch, the exhaust passage is prevented from collapsing by inserting therein a hollow support comprising a split metal bush of yieldable construction in order to prevent cracking of the pressed portion when subjected to subsequent cooling. The bush 9 is preferably made of copper, or chrome-iron alloy, with overlapping edges 10 and 11. To facilitate the insertion of the bush into an exhausting-tube the latter is preferably flared slightly at its upper end.
