706,326. Producing high vacua. LUMALAMPAN AKTIEBOLAG. Nov. 17, 1950 [Nov. 23, 1949], No. 28179/50. Class 8 (1). [Also in Groups XI and XL (a)] An electric incandescent lamp, or a discharge lamp provided with a filament as a supplementary light source, contains an alkali-combining getter, e.g. antimony trioxide, for the purpose of suppressing and neutralising alkali in a free state within the lamp, thereby avoiding flashover when in operation and also reducing brittleness of the filament. The antimony trioxide may be applied to the filament either alone or mixed with other getters; alternatively it may be sprayed on the lamp foot or contained in a separate holder and heated in known manner by induced high frequency current. It is stated that the inclusion of antimony trioxide enables the nitrogen content of an argon nitrogen filled lamp to be reduced from a normal 17 per cent to less than 10 per cent.
