Abstract
679,432. Discharge lamps. LUMALAMPAN AKTIEBOLAG. Nov. 29, 1950 [Dec. 1, 1949], No. 29253/50. Class 39 (i). In discharge lamps having a fluorescent envelope insulating members extend along and around the feeders of the electrodes inside the envelope and have a U.V. reflecting coating such as aluminium, magnesium or zirconium oxide serving to reflect U.V. light on to the fluorescent coating, for transformation to visible light by the latter, to reduce shadows caused by the leads and insulating members. The insulating members may be a foot-tube 4 and a tube 9 mounted on the latter surrounding the leads to the far electrode 7 but not the electrodes 3, 7. The oxides also act as getters, reducing darkening of the envelope near the electrodes, and this gettering can be increased by adding a metallic getter such as zirconium or magnesium to the coating.
