Abstract

946,544. Discharge lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 8, 1959 [Dec. 11, 1958], No. 41694/59. Heading H1D. A fluorescent discharge lamp comprises a hermetically sealed bulb 2 within which is mounted a high pressure metal vapour discharge tube 7 substantially surrounded by a cylindrical glass screen 10, wherein a surface of the screen is provided with one or more layers of luminescent material, the screen is spaced from the discharge tube and from the bulb so as to allow gas within the bulb to circulate between the tube and the screen to cool the screen, and a portion of the bulb 2 is mirrored internally or externally above the line PQ to reflect light from the screen. The tube 7 can contain auxiliary electrodes and a fitting 11 can be provided to determine the limits of radiated light.
