Abstract
1,129,865. Metal-vapour lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 Feb., 1966 [16 Feb., 1965], No. 6099/66. Heading H1D. A current supply lead to an activated electrode 15 in a low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp passes through a perforation in a ceramic shielding disc 16 of such thickness in the region of the perforation as to cover at least one quarter of the length of the lead measured between the electrode and a point at which the lead is sealed through the tube wall. As shown, the electrode 15 has two leads and is surrounded by a screen 20 supported by a wire 21 sealed in the pinch 12 of a low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp. The disc 16 is held in position by a kink in the wire 21 and has a flange 17 surrounding the pinch 12. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown), the flange 17 is omitted. In a further alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the ceramic disc has a peripheral region of reduced thickness and bears against the plane end of a discharge tube envelope.
