Abstract
1,140,076. Glow discharge lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 17, 1966 [May 20, 1965], No.21911/66. Heading H1D. A cold cathode glow discharge lamp comprises an elongated glass envelope 1 (which may also be of curved tubular form and may be wholly or partially coated with a phosphor) and two electrodes 4, 5 (as shown, or alternatively rod-shaped) which extend towards each other one from each end of the envelope and which have surfaces parallel to the longitudinal centre line of the envelope upon which surfaces the discharge terminates in operation, wherein at each end of the lamp the envelope is sealed by metal members 2, and 3 (of ferrochromium for instance), the surfaces of which inside the envelope are planar and perpendicular to the said longitudinal centre line. The electrodes as in Fig. 1, may be of iron, with aluminium and nickel layers on the inner and outer surfaces respectively. Members 2 and 3 may be provided with tapered connecting pins or a curved strip with a supply wire clamped therein at the end remote from the member.
