Abstract

1327609 Electric lamp PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Dec 1970 [13 Dec 1969] 58682/70 Heading C1M An electric lamp includes an envelope of quartz glass provided with an integral pinch 14, a metal foil strip 10 sealed in the pinch and a metal conductor 12 welded to an end of the strip 10 within the pinch 14, at least part of the conductor 12 located within the pinch and at least the end of the strip 10 including the welded region being coated with a thin film 11 of SiO 2 . Preferably the film 11 has a thickness of between 0À5 and 2 Ám and is deposited by means of high frequency sputtering. The metal foil strip 10 should have a melting point greater than 1500‹ C. and is made of molybdenum, tungsten or an alloy of molybdenum and tungsten.
