Vacuum tubes.-An incandescent cathode comprises oxides or other compounds of a metal of the alkaline-earth group and also of a metal of the rare-earth group, or of yttrium. Compounds of more than one metal of each group may be present; for instance, oxides of calcium, strontium, barium, lanthanum, and yttrium may be used in conjunction. Preferably onlv small proportions of the rare-earth compounds are employed. An iridium or platinum wire may form the core.
