Abstract

255,090. International General Electric Co., Inc., (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts Ges.). July 13, 1925, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-In the manufacture of oxidecoated cathodes, a core of molybdenum or tantalum is protected against oxidation during heating to fix the coating by carrying out the heating in a vacuum or non-oxidizing atmosphere, such as nitrogen. The coating may consist of the oxides of the alkaline earth metals, or compounds of the elements of the third group or of rare earths, or mixtures of these, for example, mixtures of lanthanum oxide and barium hydroxide, or cerium oxide and barium hydroxide. The surface of a filament may be roughened to obtain firm adhesion of the coating. The electrode may be treated with vapour of hydrocarbons magnesium or the alkali or alkaline earth metals to increase the electron emission.
