Abstract
336,490. General Electric Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fiir Elektrische Gl³hlampen). July 13, 1929, [Convention date]. Metallic-vapour apparatus.- In a metallic-vapour luminous discharge tube, condensation of vapour in the electrode chambers is avoided by encircling the part of the tube remote from the electrodes with one or more metal rings provided with lamellae or ribs to ensure vigorous cooling. The vapour condenses on the cooled part of the tube encircled by the rings and is immediately vaporized again by the bombardment of ions and electrons. The filling may consist of the vapour of sodium, potassium, mercury, lithium, caesium or zinc, and for starting purposes a rare gas or a gas such as nitrogen may be added. As shown, a ring e mounted on the tube supports ribs g. Oxide electrodes may be used and may be heated by a filament.
