420,586. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Aug. 9, 1934, No. 23072. Convention date, Sept. 11, 1933. [Class 39 (i)] In a gas-filled discharge tube, such as a rectifier having an incandescent cathode, the leads of one or more electrodes are protected by a plurality of contiguous insulating tubes, each join between the tubes being protected by an exactly fitting cylinder, preferably of metal. As shown in Fig. 1 an anode 4 has a lead 3 protected by a glass tube 5 sealed to the pinch, and a steatite or porcelain tube 6, the join 8 being protected by a metal tube 9 produced by the Schoop process. In a modification, Fig. 2, the tubes 5, 6 are of different diameters and the tube 5 is provided with a thickened edge 10 to secure the member 9 from sliding. The tube 5 may be frosted for the same purpose but this increases its fragility.
