Abstract
434,077. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London.-(Assignees of Patent- Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen; 11, Ehrenbergstrasse, Berlin) Feb. 7, 1935, No. 3966. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] [See also Groups XI and XXXVI] A discharge device such as a lamp 1, Fig. 1, has at least one independently heated thermionic cathode 3, the heating element 4 being supplied through two resistances 9, 10 in parallel, one of the resistances 9 being disconnected when the discharge has started so as to reduce the heating current. The cathode may be indirectly-heated, filamentary or of mixed type. The switching is preferably performed by the discharge current, as by the relay 12. The resistances 9, 10 are preferably tungsten helices enclosed in a sealed vessel 17, Fig. 2, which is exhausted or filled with neutral gas. The switch 11, 12 may be within the vessel 17, as shown, or in a contact-carrying cap, Fig. 3 (not shown). The resistances 9, 10 may become incandescent when they act as an additional source of light. Specification 402,937 is referred to.
