Abstract

255,098. Hawadier, J. A. M. July 10, 1925, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-A cathode to be heated by alternating current comprises two filaments b, d arranged parallel to one another and connected in parallel but so that current at any moment flows in opposite directions in the two. They are made in such a way as to emit electrons at very low temperatures, and so as to show a reduced cooling effect in the interval between alternations of the current. Coarse thoriated wire is suitable; or a coarse wire of tungsten or molybdenum may be wound with a fine thorium or thoriated wire.
