Abstract

539,122. Cathode-ray tubes. JEFFERSON ELECTRIC CO. March 26, 1940, No. 5450. Convention date, June 2, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] Deflecting coils for a cathode-ray tube are wound longitudinally on a cylindrical former the two coils occupying the whole circumference of the cylinder, and the ends of the turns are bent outwardly to admit the neck of the tube. Fig. 11 shows an unfinished set of coils mounted on a former 64, the ends 50-53 of one pair of coils having been turned outwardly as described, while the ends of the other have not yet been turned. The coils are held in place by a band of insulating material 61 on which are wound layers of iron wires to form a magnetic yoke. The coils may fit into each other, or one pair may overlap the other. The coils may consist of one or more layers, and may be formed with different numbers of layers in different places to correct distortion. Fig. 22 shows a coil with two layers 111, 112. The two halves of one layer 112 are connected at their outer ends to leads 113, 116 and their inner ends are connected by leads 114, 115 to the outer ends of the layer 110, to the rniddleof which is connected the lead 117, the object being to diminish the distributed capacity of the coil.
