Abstract

469,079. Cathode-ray tubes. LUBSZYNSKI, H. G., and FREEMAN, G. S. P. Jan. 15, 1936, No. 1350. [Class 39 (i)] In an image intensifier or other cathode ray tube having an electrode which is photo - sensitized, deposit of the photo-sensitive material such as caesium is prevented where it is undesired by providing a mica shield 8, Fig. 1, in close contact with the surface, as shown a luminescent screen 7; after the cathode 6 has been sensitized the shield is swung out of the way of the screen to enable the screen to be used normally. Where excess photo-electric material is to be absorbed after the sensitizing process, absorbent material such as aggregated silver on the back of a mosaic support 12, Fig. 2, is covered by a shield; after the sensitizing process this shield is swung away to uncover the silver and absorb the excess, the shield being wedged against the curved part of the envelope and held there. The aggregated silver may be fixed on the undersurface of the shield. The movement may be effected by manipulation of the envelope or by magnetic action on a piece of soft iron fixed to the shield. In a modification the absorbent material may be covered and then uncovered by a slotted disc 16, Fig. 4, pivoted on a centre 18 and provided with a piece of soft iron 20. The absorbent may be on a cup with a suitable cover. Specifications 353,555 and 406,507 are referred to.
