[Class 39 (i)] A diaphragm in front of the cathode of a cathode-ray tube serves both to control the beam current and to be reproduced on the fluorescent screen, and has an aperture of diameter 0À5 mm. and a thickness of 0À25 mm. Preferably, the ratio of the thickness to the aperture diameter is equal to or less than 0À5. In a modification, a thin diaphragm 0À1 mm. thick is placed over the aperture in the thick diaphragm B. Alternatively, a recess may be made in the thick diaphragm on the cathode side.
