Abstract

789,090. Cathode-ray tubes. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. April 15, 1955 [April 19, 1954], No. 10896/55. Class 39(1). An X-ray image intensifier input screen 2 comprises a support member 3, e.g. a watchglass plate, having on one surface a fluorescent layer 4 and on the other surface an electrically conductive layer 5, e.g., of tin oxide, the member 3 and layer 4 being transparent to radiations from the layer 4, a layer 6 of photoconductive material on the layer 5 and a photoelectrically emissive layer 7, e.g. of caesiated antimony, on the layer 6, the photo-conductive layer 6 being transmissive to a substantial portion of the radiation emitted from the fluorescent layer 4 and serving to increase the contrast of the electron image produced by the layer 7 with respect to the contrast of the light image produced by the fluorescent layer 4. The fluorescent layer 4 can be a zinc sulphide layer and the photo-conductive layer 6 can comprise a material from the group consisting of selenium, arsenic, trisulphide, antimony trisulphide and cadmium sulphide. An electron lens system 13 is positioned between the input screen 2 and an output screen 8 which comprises a glass plate 9 coated with a layer 11 of an electron-responsive phosphor coated with a thin layer 12 of aluminium.
