[Class 39 (i)] A multiplier comprises a photo-electric cathode, an anode, and a single secondary emission electrode pervious to electrons and arranged in the path of the electron stream. As shown, a fine-meshed grid or foil 1 of silver coated with caesium or potassium is arranged between a photo-electric cathode 2 and an anode 3. A magnetic focusing field axially of the system may be employed and the grid 1 may be heated. Electrostatic focusing or accelerating electrodes may be arranged between the main electrodes. An image of the cathode 2 may thus be focused on the grid 1. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also part of the subject-matter of Specification 471,800. This does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
