[Class 39 (i)] To increase the thermal radiation of electrodes such as anodes or other parts within an electric discharge tube, the anode or other part is coated with carbon, an additional layer being interposed between the anode material and the carbon; this layer which may be a silicate or one or more oxides of magnesium, beryllium or aluminium, adheres to the underlying metal and the carbon coating does not dissolve into it.
