[Class 39 (i)] In the manufacture of activated electrodes of photo-electric cells or electron multipliers, an alkali metal is vaporized on to the oxidized surface of a layer of metal of greater conductivity than itself, and is then coated with a thin layer of a metal of lower conductivity than itself, such as bismuth, antimony, or lead. The base layer may be silver or copper, to the oxidized surface of which caesium is applied.
