[Class 37] In rectifiers of the type having a selenium layer, on a metal base, and a counter-electrode, a thin layer of an insulating substance having a thickness of less than 10-<4> cm. is applied by vaporization to the surface of the selenium before applying the counter electrode. The substance may be selenium in the nonconducting form or a nonconducting selenium compound.
