A counter electrode is applied over a semiconductive surface, e.g. of selenium, and an adjacent insulating surface over whioh contact pressure is to be effected, the insulator being superposed on a portion of the semi-conductive surface or directly on the supporting base-plate. The boundary between the surfaces is of sinuous form to increase the length of that part of the counter-electrode layer extending thereover.
