Abstract

468,146. Photo electric cells. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and SIMMS, C. H. March 4, 1936, No. 6542. [Class 39 (i)] A photo-electric electron multiplier comprises a substantially spherical envelope, a cathode deposited on a substantial part of the envelope, a small secondary - emitting auxiliary electrode at the centre of the envelope, and a grid-like anode surrounding the auxiliary electrode. In one form the auxiliary electrode is a small cylinder 3 at the centre of an envelope 1 on which a cathode 2 is deposited. The anode is a helix 4 surrounding the electrode 3. Double leads 5, 5 to the electrodes 3, 4 are used, and glass sheaths 7, 7 may surround them. The cathode may be caesiated by the method described in Specification 345,375, the electrode 3 being a silver rod which will become sufficiently activated during the cathode activation process.
