Abstract

475,807. Photo-electric cells. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., and KING, E. B. May 25, 1936, Nos. 14714 and 22980. [Class 39 (i)] A thermionic cathode and an annular anode are separated by a conical or cylindrical partition enclosing the cathode and the discharge between them is controlled by the space charge produced by a photo-electric electrode. In the arrangement shown, the partition 3 is of conical form and the photo-electric electrode 5 is formed on the end of the envelope 1 opposite to the cathode 2. The partition 3 has a metallic coating and by choosing the potentials of the cathode 2, partition 3, anode 4 and photoelectrode 5 the discharge between the cathode and anode may be made to increase or diminish with the illumination of the electrode 5 as desired.
