Abstract

499,661. Discharge apparatus. FERNSEE AKT.-GES. July 26, 1937, No. 20628. Convention date, July 30, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] In a tube in which photo-electrons from the cathode excite a luminescent screen the light from which excites further cathode emission, the electron stream between cathode and screen is amplified by electron multiplication. As shown the cathode is a coating 2 on the half of a spherical envelope 1, and the fluorescent screen 3 is deposited on a conductive coating forming the anode. A series of permeable secondary emitting electrodes 4 with positive potentials increasing towards the anode are provided. A transparent screen 7 biassed to cathode potential separates the two halves of the envelope, and a variable potential, e.g. a carrier wave potential, or a periodic quenching potential may be applied to it. The fluorescence light may affect a further photoelectric cell.
