362,838. Photo-electric cells. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Aug. 5, 1931, No. 22185. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1930. [Class 39 (i).] In photo - electric cells having a photoelectric cathode and one or more other electrodes in a vacuum or gas-filled chamber, the other electrodes are at least partly made of a material which fluoresces when bombarded by elec. trons. The fluorescent substance and the material of the photo - electric electrode are so shown that the fluorescence light ejects further electrons from the photo-electric electrode. In one form, the cathode consists of a layer of silver 3, a layer of caesium oxide 4 and a layer of caesium 6. Light enters through a window 7. A ring-shaped anode 8 is coated with zinc sulphide or zinc silicate. If the cathode consists of potassium, zinc silicate, calcium tungstate, or barium platinum cyanide may be used as the fluorescing substance.
