Abstract

454,146. Photo-electric cells. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. June 3, 1936, No. 15560. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] In a gas-filled photo -electric cell the anode is in the form of a filament 6, Fig. 1, or a rod or rods 14, Fig. 2, and is arranged asymmetrically with respect to the cathode, so that the shortest distance b between the two electrodes is at the most one fifth of the distance from the anode to the centre 8 of the cathode portion opposite the window 5. In a spherical cell the cathode 4 comprises a silver coating on the envelope supporting a layer consisting of a mixture of caesium oxide, silver and caesium particles on which is a thin absorbed caesium layer. The filling consists of argon at 0À15 mm. The arrangement of anode prevents rapid deterioration by positive ions of the light sensitive surface opposite the window.
