Abstract

502,104. Cathode - ray tubes. KLEMPERER, O. Sept. 11, 1937, No. 24777. [Class 39 (i)] In cathode-ray tubes having a luminescent screen which tends to become negatively charged when bombarded by high velocity electrons of the order of 10-100 kilovolts, the building up of a negative charge on the screen is prevented by the provision of a source of low velocity electrons, of the order of 200-300 volts which is caused to impact the screen. An arrangement is shown in the drawing in which the screen 6 is bombarded by the high velocity electrons from a system including a cathode 2, modulating electrode 3 and first and second anodes 4, 5, the latter of which is at a voltage of about 20 kilovolts. A source of low velocity electrons comprises an anode 9 preferably at the potential of the anode 5 and a cathode 8 at about 300 volts negative thereto. The low velocity electrons may cover the whole area of the fluorescent screen and may be continuous or intermittent in action.
