495,330. Cathode - ray tubes. FERNSEH AKT.-GES. May 10, 1937, No. 13321. Convention date, May 9, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] In a cathode-ray tube for television provided with a mosaic screen from which secondary electrons are liberated by a scanning beam to give an image signal the electrons so liberated are passed to an electron multiplier arranged within the tube. In the arrangement shown photo-electrons from the screen 2 are collected by an annular electrode 6 on the wall of the tube 1 and secondary electrons liberated by the scanning beam are collected by a perforated or thin sheet metal electrode 8 and passed through a multiplier 13 in a recess 7 in the wall of the tube to an output electrode 14. Separate coatings 3 and 4 on the inside of the tube are maintained at the potential of the gun anode and at a slightly lower potential respectively. The multiplier is surrounded by a screening electrode 15 connected to the electrode 4. The multiplier may be of the type consisting of a number of perforated plates, as shown, or of the type consisting of two electrodes to which alternating potentials are applied. A number of multipliers and output electrodes may be provided, or the multiplier may be in the form of a ring surrounding the screen.
