[Class 39 (i)] In a cathode-ray tube such as described in Specification 431,327, wherein the beam is defined-prior to final focusing on to the screen -by an apertured diaphragm 8 arranged near the focusing lens, such secondary electrons as are generated by the impact of the beam on the diaphragm are prevented from passing to the screen by an electrode 6a at a potential slightly negative to that of the anode 6 in front of the diaphragm. The diaphragm and negative electrode 6a are shown integral, but they may be separate or the diaphragm may carry the negative bias. Potentials are given.
