529,341. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIOAKT.- GES. D. S. LOEWE. May 30, 1939, No. 15885. Convention date, May 31, 1938. [Class 39 (i)] In order to prevent injury by ions to the screen of a Braun tube in which the ray is deflected in one plane electrostatically and in the other electromagnetically the ray is deflected by plates between the anode and the ordinary deflection plates to a point at the edge of the screen and returned to its normal position by electromagnetic deflection. In the arrangement shown the plates 8, 9 deflect the ray towards the point P on the screen and it is returned to the point Q by a constant current applied to the ordinary deflecting coils. The plates 8, 9 may be given potentials symmetrical with that of the anode 1 by means of batteries 10, 11, or one of them may be connected to the cathode and one to a diaphragm of low potential.
