Abstract

529,523. Cathode-ray tubes. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., and SHELTON, E. E. May 26, 1939, No. 15769. [Class 39 (i)] To avoid " trapezium, pin-cushion and barrel " distortion of the raster in a cathode ray tube an interplate screen 4 is used between the electromagnetic or electro-static Y deflection means 2 for giving vertical movement and the plates 5, 6 giving the X or horizontal deflection ; these plates are (i) concave at their front and rear edges 5a, 5b and (ii) are convex so that their surfaces are nearer together at some intermediate part 5c, 6c than at their ends. The interplate screen 4 is curved-cylindrically or sphericallyabout the line or centre of Y deflection, and has a slot allowing a beam angle of 30 degrees. The deflection potential may be applied to only one or other of the X plates. To prevent secondary electrons from the screen returning to the X plates electrodes 7, 8 are placed between these plates and the screen and have a potential equal to the maximum potential attained by the X plates; the tube has a coating also at this potential. When used in a tube with a gas filling the plates 7, 8 would serve to increase the plate to plate impedance.
