Abstract

518,221. Cathode-ray tubes. FERRANTI, Ltd., MILLER, J. L., and WOOD, H. Aug. 12, 1938, No. 23786. [Class 39 (i)] In order to prevent injury to the screen by ions in a tube having the neck and bulb portions coaxial the beam from the cathode 4 is so focussed by electrodes 5, 6 that the ions are intercepted by a stop 9, while the electrons are by means of coils 14, 15, 16 diverted round the edge of the stop and refocussed on the screen 8, without any alteration of divergence other than is involved in the refocussing. Scanning coils are provided and the coil 16 may act as one of the scanning coils. The refocussing of the beam may be effected electrostatically. Specification 480,948 is referred to.
