Abstract

503,762. Electron multipliers. BAIRD TELEVISION, Ltd., and JONES, V. A. Oct. 7, 1937, No. 27180. [Class 39 (i)] To suppress the operation of an electron multiplier when desired, potentials are applied to one electrode 3 to reduce the electron velocity and so prevent secondary emission, and annular electrodes 2, additional to the secondary electron emitting electrodes, are provided one at each side of the electrode 3 to prevent electrons passing around the electrode 3 under the attraction of the electrodes 4 .. 7 of higher voltage and so to ensure effective suppression. The electrodes 2 may be at the potential of the surrounding shielding electrode 8, and an accelerating electrode 9 is also maintained at this potential. The primary electrons striking the cathode 1 may be photoelectrons from the image cathode of an electron camera.
