Abstract
547,801. Electron multipliers. BOSCH, F. J. G. VAN DEN, and VACUUM-SCIENCE PRODUCTS, Ltd. March 6, 1941, No. 3088. [Class 39 (i)] An electron multiplier has a secondary cathode 14 with apertures for the passage of electrons, an additional secondary electron emitting electrode 21 spaced in front of the secondary cathode and having apertures for the passage of electrons arranged out of line with the apertures in the secondary cathode, and means for applying to the electrodes positive potentials of either approximately the same magnitude or so that the additional electrode has a potential higher than that of the secondary cathode but substantially less than that applied to the next following additional electrode. Electrodes 14 and 21 may be connected together inside the tube as shown in Fig. 4 ; or connections to each electrode 21 may be brought out to tappings on the potential divider slightly more positive than the corresponding secondary cathode. In Fig. 3, each electrode 21 is connected to the second preceding electrode 14 through a series resistance 22. Each secondary cathode may have several additional electrodes. Dimensions and working voltages are given for the form shown in Fig. 4. Specifications 516,621 and 545,123 are referred to.
