Abstract

524,658. Electron multipliers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and VANGEEN, A. I. Feb. 3, 1939, No. 3658. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron-multiplier the secondary emissive electrodes have their surfaces renewed during or after a period of working of the multiplier ; stores K of activating material may be held in a container provided with a heater R which may be used to vaporize the material when desired. In modification a grid is coated with the material and placed immediately next to the electrode, some of the material being evaporated continuously from the grid on to the electrode during working. Suitable material would be alkali or alkaline earth borates.
